The furniture market keeps on evolving each day. Apart from the comfort or the ease and convenience in using that the customers also need the furniture to suit the interiors of the house. Furniture in india has also been witnessing a growing demand in the market. Here is a little more about a few of the furniture designs and materials that have conquered the market.

Wood

Wood is the one furniture manufacturing material that is being used right from the ancient times. Even today it is the material which is of the highest demand and value.  Wooden furniture has a life period which beats all other materials. They also have a good finishing and strong body. Wood can be used to manufacture any type of furniture. It can be used even with glass and leather. Today one can manufacture wooden furniture of their choice of designs in their own homes using wood from their own trees. Furniture made out of Teak, mahogany, and wood of jack fruit tree etc are of high price and quality.

Plastic

These are low in weight and price and suit the needs of a low budget house. Since plastic is the major ingredient used, these are available in many colours. Another feature of these is that they are suitable for outdoor and do not easily wear off. Normally the colour of plastic chairs fade over time and also loses its strength, and hence their legs begin to bend at the slightest of weight.  But   market has overcome this problem by introducing high grades plastic chairs. These chairs are available in the various textures like steel and some even look like wood!

Cane

Cane, which is a 100% natural material, has been used in furniture manufacturing right from the olden times. Their price depends on the style of the furniture.  They can be manufactured in any shapes and sizes. Upholstered designer cane furniture is of high demand in the market today.

Treated rubber wood

Treated rubber wood is a material that is slowly gaining popularity in the market. When fully grown, the rubber trees are cut off and then chemically treated.  This helps avoid germ attacks on the wood. They are capable of sustaining for over 25 years without any damage and are expected to create a revolution in the furniture market in the coming years. 

Mild steel

Mild steel furniture is a prominent item in the metal furniture market, the reason being its cost effectiveness. They are available at prices starting from 800 rupees. The dining tables with a powder coating may cost up to rupees 5000.

Cast iron

This is the one type of furniture that is resistant to all kinds of weathers. They do not corrode easily even if used outdoors.

Glass

No one needs an introduction on glass furniture. They are seen in almost all houses in one form or the other. They are available in transparent designs which allow the passage of light through it and minimalistic designs which give the interiors a classy look. One advantage of these is that they can be washed and maintained without any stains for a long time. Glass furniture is manufactured using toughened glass, which does not break easily.

Synthetic leather

Synthetic leather, which is a clone of leather, is cheaper than latter but is the same in quality.  Normally cushions placed over the wooden furniture are covered using synthetic leather. Another advantage of these is that they don’t require much maintenance.

Poly urethane

This material which is available in over a hundred colours has set off a new wave in Kerala. Majority of the sofa sets being imported to Kerala are made out of poly urethane material. The frame of this furniture are made out of wood and then given a coating of poly urethane. They also have an excellent finishing. 

Leather

Even though they are a bit expensive, there is no match for the comfort of leather furniture. They offer a comfortable seating in any climate and can be cleaned using a special leather cleaning liquid.

Fabric

Fabric furniture is a symbol of sophistication and luxury. While purchasing Fabric furniture and sofa sets, take special care to buy the ones whose upholstery can be removed. This will help in the cleaning of dirty fabric. Jute, cotton, velvet and linen are of the highest demand in the market.

Acrylic

These materials have a fluid design and looks very much like glass. These are 17 times stronger than glass though they have only half the thickness of glass. These can be manufactured in any shapes and designs using thermo setting process.

Poly ethylene fibre

These polymers which are lightweight in nature are resistant to damage, even while exposed to rain and sunlight. These look like cane furniture and are available at low prices.

Stainless steel

The multi-purpose furniture that can be folded and kept away after use is made out of this material. They can be manufactured in any shape you desire using water jet cutting. They last for a long time without any damage or corrosion.

Synthetic fibre

They are very much light weight in nature and are available in all colours. They do not get stained easily and hence can be used for outdoor purposes.

HDF and MDF

HDF (High Density Fibre) and MDF (medium Density Fibre) are the best suited for contemporary houses. These are available in any design and finish and are sure to enhance the beauty of your interiors.
